Using just a few ingredients, this basic recipe is not only versatile, it’s also light on calories, salt, and fat. Even better, it’s easy to tweak the ingredients to suit the meal, depending on your flavor preferences. I’m including a couple variations using a variety of spices and herbs.
Ingredients:
24 oz jar salsa verde
1/2 tsp – organic ground black pepper
1/2 tsp – dried red chili pepper flakes
1/2 tsp – organic dried cilantro
1/4 to 1/2 cup filtered water
1/4 to ½ cup light organic white pasta sauce
Choose organic, light versions of salsa verde and white pasta sauce, with minimal fat and sodium. Combine green sauce, pepper, red chili flakes, and a little water into a food processor and pulse to mix. Add white sauce and process on low for about 25 seconds. You’ll have a thick, slightly chunky sauce. If you prefer a smoother texture, add a little more water and continue to process. Pour the sauce in a glass jar and store in the fridge.
For southwestern-inspired recipes:
1 cup Kitchen Spirit Green Chili Sauce
1 tsp organic ground cumin
1 tbsp. organic dried cilantro
1 tsp organic chili powder
Here’s a version for pork or fish:
1 cup Kitchen Spirit Green Chili Sauce
½ tsp organic dried red chili flakes
1 tsp organic dried rosemary
1 tbsp organic dried parsley
For an asian twist, on top of roasted veggies, or grilled shrimp:
1 cup Kitchen Spirit Green Chili Sauce
1 tsp organic ground ginger
½ tsp organic ground turmeric
½ tsp organic dried red chili flakes
I usually make up a batch of all these sauces and store in glass jars in my refrigerator. Makes it easy to flavor-up most any dish without adding a lot of calories or fat – a double win!
