Need a “go-to” sauce to perk up the flavor of your favorite dish? This one is quick, easy and delicious on it’s own, as a base for gravies, or for that extra little “adder” for chilis, soups, and stews.
Using just a few ingredients, this basic recipe is not only versatile, it’s also light on calories, salt, and fat. Even better, it’s easy to tweak the ingredients to suit the meal, depending on your flavor preferences. I’m including a couple variations using a variety of spices and herbs.
Choose organic, light versions of salsa verde and white pasta sauce, with minimal fat and sodium. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and pulse to mix. Then process thoroughly for about 25 seconds. You’ll have a thick, slightly chunky sauce. If you prefer a smoother texture, add a little more water or pasta sauce and continue to process. Pour the sauce in a glass jar and store in the fridge.
I usually make up a batch of all these sauces and store in glass jars in my refrigerator. Makes it easy to flavor-up most any dish without adding a lot of calories or fat – a double win!
